NeuIsys Defends Its Safer Cancer Detecting Scanner
/GREENSBORO//, NC - May 15, 2008/ - NeuIsys Imaging Solutions, LLC of Greensboro NC today announced the successful completion of several "virtual colonoscopy" (CT Colonography or CTC) demonstrations using its new two row NeuViz CT scanner. The NeuViz Dual, FDA approved in November 2006, has the latest technology and creates images essentially equivalent to today's 16 and 32 slice scanners while giving the patient much less radiation exposure, as shown here.
Kim Russell, NeuIsys CEO and founder, says, "While hospitals and large imaging centers engage in "slice wars" to create a buzz in the radiology market, NeuIsys chooses to focus on clinical quality and patient safety. By having these studies done on our state of the art scanner rather than a 16 or 64 slice CT unit, the patient receives much less radiation dose exposure while the doctor gets what he needs clinically."
The truth is that most patient studies, like whole body, or abdomen and pelvis scans, are perfectly done on the new two row technology made by the Philips Neusoft Joint Venture and sold under the Neusoft brand.
Because many have claimed that at least a 16 slice scanner is needed to do CTC, NeuIsys embarked on several CTC demonstrations on appropriate patients to confirm the quality of its NeuViz Dual study. Would the image spatial resolution and quality be clinically appropriate? Would the patient tolerate the study well? Would there be motion artifact because the patient might have to breathe during the study using a 2 slice scanner?
The answers were unequivocal. After being involved in these demonstrations with NeuIsys, Mr. Warren Gambella of Barco Inc (a leading 3-D software company with whom NeuIsys partnered to do these cases) stated, "As a technologist that has had the opportunity to utilize a vast assortment of scanners, including the latest 16, 32, and 64 slice units, I am quite impressed with NeuIsys' 2 slice technology. For CTC, the NeuIsys Dual Scanner provides image quality comparable to the quality of all 16 slice devices I have seen in the market place. In fact, I have on several occasions had the opportunity to compare image data between the NeuIsys Dual and other multidetector CT (16, 32, 64 slice) units and was hard pressed to see any difference in image quality." Unfortunately, the "thought leaders" in Radiology and Gastroenterology, who are addressing the CTC issue, are giving their doctors bad advice, at least according to Dr. Joseph Jenkins, Chief Medical Officer of NeuIsys, "The American Gastroenterology Association has come out with virtual colonoscopy standards that state that "a minimum of a 4 slice" scanner is needed to do CTC. At a recent meeting sponsored by the AGA, doctors heard that they needed at least a 16 slice scanner for CTC. They are simply mistaken."
Having shown that its product successfully does CTC and gives the patient and his/her doctor another weapon to search out curable cancer and save lives, NeuIsys enthusiastically wades into the GI market. Because 60% of Americans over 50 years of age refuse conventional optical colonoscopy for a variety of reasons, the American Cancer Society (ACS) has looked for ways to increase the penitrance of screening tests for colon cancer and pre cancerous polyps. Only this spring the ACS has recognized that virtual colonoscopy is a preferred method for attracting patients to screening so that curable cancers can be detected.
