Museum of American Finance Opens at 48 Wall Street

The Museum of American Finance, an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, will re-open in its new home at 48 Wall Street on January 11, 2008. Accredited members of the media are invited to attend a press conference on WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 9, from 10:30am-11:15am.

Located in the historic former headquarters of the Bank of New York, the museum features 30,000 square feet of space for permanent interactive exhibits on the financial markets, money, banking, entrepreneurship and Alexander Hamilton, as well as a state-of-the-art education center, research facility and galleries for changing exhibits. Previously, the museum was located at 26 Broadway, a location that was a tenth the size of its new home.

The museum will serve as the de facto visitors' center for the New York Stock Exchange, which closed its doors to tourists in September 2001. Each year, the museum educates tens of thousands of professionals, students and tourists about America's financial history. It also serves as a valued research repository for academics, and has been a longtime resource for journalists seeking historical insights into modern market issues.
