Rayawave Inc. Provides Mission Critical Gig-E Backhaul for Sturm Foods
SAN DIEGO--Rayawave Inc., a supplier of gigabit outdoor wireless bridging solutions, today announced the deployment of two Gig-E AirebeamTM millimeterwave point-to-point links at Sturm Foods. When municipal authorities informed Sturm Foods that they would need to do some major road work close to the fiber conduit connecting their headquarters to their operations center with Gigabit Ethernet connectivity, they turned to Rayawave for their AirebeamTM wireless fiber solution.
"The loss of our gigabit connection due to terrestrial fiber cuts from any source, including backhoes and bulldozers working in the area, would have a huge impact on our business," stated Larry Katerzynske, CIO for Sturm Foods. "Our network runs mission critical applications and we needed an alternative communication solution that could be implemented quickly, cost-effectively, and provide the gigabit speeds supported by our routers."
After extensively testing the performance of the AirebeamTM system, the Sturm Foods IT department performed some internal re-routing of the existing fiber run on the Sturm Foods campus that could not have been done without having an alternative high capacity network path in place. "The overall performance and reliability of the Rayawave system enabled us to perform the fiber re-routing process flawlessly," explained Katerzynske, "and the Rayawave AirebeamTM system has exceeded our expectations with regards to performance and latency."
The links for Sturm Foods were installed by Fiber in Air LLC, a suburban Chicago Rayawave Certified Value Added Reseller. "Our site survey identified an impediment to a line-of-sight connection, and identified a nearby water tower as a relay point, using a back-to-back configuration for completing the gigabit wireless connection," reported Kyle Robinson, Operations Manager for Fiber in Air. "As we anticipated, the configuration worked well and, most importantly, our client had the connection they needed."
Rayawave's high capacity and low latency gigabit wireless bridging solutions are ideally suited for a wide variety of point to point wireless applications in the enterprise, healthcare, education, public safety and government as well as service provider markets. The AirebeamTM technology performance is similar to terrestrial fiber in terms of bandwidth, security and reliability but it can be deployed within days utilizing the quick and inexpensive internet based licensing system implemented by the FCC. "The deployment of the AirebeamTM system at Sturm Foods is a prime example of how the Rayawave gigabit outdoor wireless bridging solution can be used in a mission critical application where network downtime is not an option," says Heinz Willebrand, President and CEO of Rayawave.
