HughesWattersAskanase Selected by Freddie Mac As Designated Counsel in Texas
HOUSTON--The Houston-based law firm of HughesWattersAskanase L.L.P. has been selected to participate in the Freddie Mac Designated Counsel program and will begin accepting Texas default referrals in the program effective today, May 15, 2007.
"It is an honor to be recognized by Freddie Mac. This industry distinction is the direct result of the hard work, dedication and commitment to timeline and performance excellence and ethical practices of each member of the default servicing team," said Carolyn A. Taylor, partner, who leads the Consumer Financial Services Practice Group. "We look forward to participating with Freddie Mac in preventative and strategic initiatives that will enhance servicer performance levels and provide borrowers with options to save their homes from foreclosure."
Freddie Mac is a stockholder-owned corporation established by the United States Congress in 1970 to support homeownership and rental housing. Freddie Mac currently supports $1.3 trillion in home loans through the purchase of single-family and multifamily residential mortgages, financed primarily by issuing mortgage-related securities and debt instruments in the capital markets. Over the years, Freddie Mac has ensured financing for one in six homebuyers and more than four million renters.
The Designated Counsel Program was initiated by Freddie Mac 10 years ago in New Jersey to assist mortgage servicers in implementing responsible and innovative servicing practices to promote and protect the American dream of home ownership. The Designated Counsel Program is currently active in 19 states.
The capabilities of Taylor and her practice group, with the support of the firm overall, contributed to the selection of HughesWattersAskanase by Freddie Mac for participation in its Designated Counsel Program. Taylor was instrumental in implementing internal policies and procedures that culminated in the firm's receipt of the 2005-2006 Service Excellence Award given annually by Fidelity National Default Solutions to the top two firms in the 250-firm network with the highest tiering rankings in bankruptcy and foreclosure per Fidelity's services performance measurements.
