Universal Technical Institute Experiences Strategic Business Benefits with Intersourcing
WESTON, Florida -- Ultimate Software (Nasdaq:ULTI), a leading provider of end-to-end strategic human resources, payroll, and talent management solutions, announced today that Universal Technical Institute, Inc. (UTI) is experiencing improved service to employees, enhanced strategic reporting capabilities, and efficiencies since implementing UltiPro.
With approximately 2,500 employees in 50 states, UTI is a nationwide provider of technical education training for students seeking careers as professional automotive, diesel, collision repair, motorcycle, and marine technicians. Prior to UltiPro, UTI had been using an outdated in-house solution that did not provide the sophisticated technology and functionality necessary for growth. The organization went "live" on Ultimate Software's UltiPro in January 2004. Since then, the company has experienced:
* Many positive responses from employees, accompanied by a reduction in requests to the payroll services and people services teams because of UltiPro's Web functionality, including employee self-service, manager self-service, and online recruitment
* Increased strategic business intelligence because of UltiPro's standard and customizable reports, allowing the company to better monitor and forecast workforce expenses
* Time savings due to the automation of many tasks that would need to be performed manually without UltiPro contributing to sustained payroll services headcount despite the addition of 32 percent more employees since the organization started using UltiPro
"Our employees love UltiPro's self-service," said Molly Reed, director of payroll services for UTI. "They enjoy the convenience and flexibility of being able to retrieve their information over the Web from home or office, during the week or on the weekends. A majority of our employees use it on a regular basis. In fact, over 800 employees just signed up to discontinue receiving paper direct deposit advices, and use UltiPro to view their paychecks instead."
With self-service, UTI's employees have rights to access and, when appropriate, update their personal information such as home addresses, phone numbers, and direct deposit selections. UTI's managers can also review the earnings, merit, and job histories of their team members without e-mails or phone calls to the People Services Department. UTI is preparing to make UltiPro's reporting capabilities available to leadership via the Web as well. Today, the People Services and Payroll Services Departments regularly provide reports such as labor distribution, headcount, and financial planning to the executive team and managers.
"Having access to UltiPro's reporting is helping my team function more strategically," said Reed. "My group is able to create meaningful analytics for company leadership that are specific to our own unique talent management needs. UltiPro has afforded us both the analysis tools and the time to spend on activities that have a greater impact on the company than we've had previously."
With UltiPro, mass salary adjustments including retroactive salary increases can be calculated and imported at once, saving significant manual data entry, paper handling, and filing time.
"Combined with the efficiencies resulting from self-service, UltiPro has allowed my staff to remain the same size, even though the company has grown from approximately 1,900 to 2,500 employees in the last several years," said Reed. "We have automated many tactical processes, so my department is no longer heads down and paper pushing. We believe we are now functioning more like a strategic business partner at UTI and are contributing to improved organizational effectiveness."
"Over the past several years, UTI has introduced increasing amounts of UltiPro's functionality, and as a result, its People Services and Payroll teams have been able to extend the strategic contribution they make to the organization," said Greg Swick, senior vice president of sales for Ultimate Software. "They have not only contributed to the bottom line by keeping a lid on operations headcount even as UTI's general employee population has grown, they have also made many more business reports readily available to decision-makers and increased employee and manager satisfaction."
