Governor Walz Announces Extension of “Safe Travels, Minnesota” Sun Country Airlines Vaccine Incentive Program

Minnesotans getting their COVID-19 shot at Terminal 2 at the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport October 8 through December 29 will be entered into a weekly drawing for a $200 travel voucher through Sun Country Airlines

[ST. PAUL, MN] — Today, Governor Tim Walz announced a further extension of the “Safe Travels, Minnesota” vaccine incentive partnership with Sun Country Airlines encouraging Minnesotans to roll up their sleeves and get their COVID-19 vaccine.

Minnesotans who get their Johnson & Johnson vaccine at the state’s vaccination clinic at MSP Airport’s Terminal 2 from October 8 through December 29 can enter into a weekly drawing for a $200 travel voucher through Sun Country Airlines. The incentive program first launched in July.

“The vaccine is your non-stop flight to protecting your family from COVID-19,” said Governor Walz. “To slow the spread of COVID-19, all eligible Minnesotans should get this safe, free, and effective shot. That’s why we are continuing our partnership with Sun Country at Terminal 2 to meet Minnesotans where they are and help them get vaccinated as soon as possible.”

“Getting fully vaccinated is the number one action you can take to keep you and your family safe,” said Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan. “Stop on by or make an appointment at Terminal 2 and help protect your fellow Minnesotans from the spread of COVID-19.”

The “Safe Travels, Minnesota” program is one of several current incentives the Walz-Flanagan Administration has launched to encourage Minnesotans to get their COVID-19 vaccine.

On September 16, Governor Tim Walz announced the launch of a new program offering $100 on-site incentives for COVID-19 vaccines at community vaccination clinics around the state. Nearly 50 COVID-19 Community Coordinators (CCCs), community clinics and Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) are participating in the program.

As with last Sunday at the state’s Skol Up Your Sleeves Vaccine Clinic, Minnesotans 18+ who get a vaccine at U.S. Bank Stadium before the Vikings game this Sunday, October 10, will be entered for a chance to win Polaris Club seats to the January 9 Vikings-Bears game. The first 50 to get vaccinated will also receive autographed mini-helmets.

The extension of the “Safe Travels, Minnesota” incentive program also comes after two successful Walz-Flanagan Administration efforts to encourage Minnesotans to roll up their sleeves and get their shot. Nearly 80,000 Minnesotans who received their first dose between July 30 and August 22 signed up for a $100 Visa gift card as part of a statewide giveaway. At the Minnesota State Fair, more than 3,110 Fairgoers received their vaccine and claimed a $100 Visa gift card on site.

The one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine is being administered at Terminal 2 before security checkpoints. Minnesotans must be 18 or over to receive the shot and enter the drawing. This opportunity is open to the general public. No boarding pass or appointment are required. Undrawn entries do not rollover into subsequent weeks. The Terminal 2 vaccination site is located at 7150 Humphrey Drive and is open every day from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Parking vouchers are available at the MSP Terminal 2 community vaccination location. The vouchers are good for one hour of free parking to any patient visiting the Terminal 2 for the purpose of vaccination. Inquire with staff on site to receive your voucher.
