New Warden at Calhoun State Prison William Steedley Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of William Steedley to Warden at Calhoun State Prison, effective October 1, 2020. As Warden, Steedley will be responsible for overseeing 254 staff members and 1,677 medium-security male offenders.

“Steedley has proven himself to be an effective leader throughout his 24 year career,” said Commissioner Ward. “We are confident that his knowledge and experience will assist him in carrying out the GDC mission at Calhoun State Prison.”

Steedley began his career with the Department in 1996 as a Correctional Officer at Ware State Prison. During his tenure at Ware State Prison, he was promoted through the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and Unit Manager.  In 2019, Steedley was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security at Hays State Prison, where he currently serves.
