3rd Maine Company A Regiment Volunteer Infantry to give presentation March 17 in Readfield

READFIELD — Members of the 3rd Maine Company A Regiment Volunteer Infantry will give a presentation at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at Gile Hall, 8 Old Kents Hill Road.

This program, sponsored by the Readfield Historical Society, will include aspects of the daily lives of Civil War cooks, infantrymen and others, following the RHS annual meeting and election of officers.

The 3rd Maine’s participated in Readfield’s Veterans’ Day history walk last November. The actual Third Maine was a unit of more than 1,500 soldiers, and this group of re-enactors portrays Company A, a regiment comprised of men recruited from towns along the Kennebec River.

The 3rd Maine Civil War re-enactors group is a nonprofit educational and living history organization dedicated to preserving the memory of Maine’s role in the American Civil War. They are available for living history events, battle reenactments, and educational presentations which aim to teach what life was like for Maine soldiers and civilians from 1861 to 1865.
