Covid-19: National police commander calls for strengthened surveillance

ANGOLA, May 30 - Uíge- The Commander-General of National Police Commissioner-General Paulo de Almeida Friday urged the staff of Border Police (PGF) to step up the vigilance on illegal entry on the border between the northern province of Uige and the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), as part of measures aimed to halt covid-19.,

Speaking at the end of a three-day visit to the province of Uíge, Paulo de Almeida said there is a total engagement of the staff, society, population and traditional authorities  on preventing the disease.

“There are no records of cases that may concern public security and national security along this border. I am pleased, despite the difficult conditions in which our staff operate ”, said the Commander-General of the National Police.

He pointed out the insufficiency of staff and material resources, which, according to him, hinder the good performance of the personnel along the border.

The commander also urged the population to continue to strive for the prevention of the pandemic.

Paulo de Almeida, who was accompanied by the heads of the PGF and the Migration and Foreigners Services, visited the land borders of Malele and Kimbata, in the municipalities of Maquela do Zombo.
