Monongalia man arrested for arson over fireworks apartment fire

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office investigators have arrested a Monongalia County tenant, alleging he set his own apartment on fire with fireworks.

The report by WVSFMO investigators states that on July 1, Christopher D. Grimes of Brookhaven had been at a neighboring apartment in his apartment building at 700 Brookhaven Apartments.  While there, Grimes was apparently under the influence of unknown substances and became agitated. Grimes then returned to his own apartment, where he began kicking out windows and lighting off fireworks.

Assistant State Fire Marshal Rick Sovastion charged Grimes with one count of first-degree arson and one count of felony destruction of property.
