President assesses drought effects in Curoca
Moçâmedes, ANGOLA, May 3 - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, checked Friday the effects of the drought in the commune of Curoca, Tombwa municipality (Namibe), as part of a few hours visit to this province of the south coast of the country.,
"We believe in the positive results of President João Lourenço's visit to the commune of Curoca," said the communal administrator, Alexandre Nyuca, pointing out that he had received specific instructions from the Statesman.
Alexandre Nyuca said he hoped that the drought situation in the Curoca (Tombwa) commune would be solved definitively with resort to Cunene River.
António Beapé, the commune's traditional chief, confirmed that the region had not been rained for three years, a situation that forced cattle breeders to go to pasture in Chongoroi, a municipality in the neighboring province of Benguela.
On that occasion, the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, promised to address the situation through a program coordinated jointly by the Government of Namibe and the communal administration of Curoca.
In Namibe, the phenomenon affects, since January, the five municipalities of the province (Moçâmedes, Bibala, Virei, Kamucuio and Tômbwa).
The municipality of Bibala leads the chart with 9,334 families affected, followed by Kamucuio with 6,167 families, Virei with 4,333 families, Moçâmedes with 4,333 families and the Tômbwa with 2,333 families.
