Politician Abel Chivukuvuku evacuated abroad for medical treatment

Luanda, ANGOLA, May 3 - Angolan politician Abel Chivukuvuku was evacuated Thursday to South Africa to go ahead with his medical treatment, Angop learned Friday from a source close to the process.,

 

Abel Chivukuvuku was admitted to hospital (Clínica Girassola) in Luanda on April 25 - 30 after being diagnosed with malaria, whose recovery was described as "positive and reassuring".

In order to ensure his permanent "recovery and stability", it was decided to evacuate the patient to South Africa, said Friday a statement released by Provisional Leadership of the Self-proclaimed “General Coordination of Independents”.

The decision stemmed from consensus between the Clínica Girassol and the family of politician, the source stressed.

Abel Chivukuvuku was until recently leader of the Broad Convergence for Angola’s Salvation Electoral Coalition (CASA-CE). He is also a former cadre of the also opposition Angolan political party National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA).

In its communiqué,  Provisional Leadership of the Self-proclaimed “General Coordination of Independents” also thanked the institutional support offered under President João Lourenço.

The Angolan President, João Lourenço, visited last Monday  the politician and national citizen Abel Chivukuvuku.

"The visit I made to Dr. Abel Chivukuvuku is nothing more than a simple gesture of solidarity to a fellow citizen whose services Angola needs," the president wrote on his Twitter page.

João Lourenço concluded his message by saying that "every Angolan is a fundamental asset for dignifying the country."
