Luanda, ANGOLA, April 25 - The People's Republic of China is available to expand economic cooperation with Angola, hoping to go beyond the traditional state model of oil credit lines, said today in Luanda the Chinese ambassador to Angola, Gong Tao.,

The Chinese diplomat spoke on Thursday to journalists at the end of a meeting with the chairwoman of the Committee of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Angolan Communities Abroad of the National Assembly, Josefina Diakité.

Turnover between the two countries last year was 28 billion US dollars.

The Asian giant remains the first trading partner of Angola and the first importer of Angolan oil.

According to the diplomat, China is available to expand bilateral cooperation in several areas, "especially since the current government of Angola is making good policies for the diversification of the economy in order to attract more foreign investment to develop the sector of industry and agriculture".

According to Gong Tao, who has been in Angola for a month (last week presented credentials to the President of the Republic), the current Angolan government is creating a more favorable environment for new investment policies in Angola.

In effect, he said that Chinese entrepreneurs should travel to Angola in the near future to study new investment channels.

He also informed that his country had also expressed the wish to deepen bilateral relations in the parliamentary field.

Angola and China are long-time partners, diplomatic relations date back 36 years.

Last year, President João Lourenço paid two visits to China. The first was held in September at the China-Africa Summit, and the second one was the official state visit a month later.
