Attorney General's Office recovers over USD 200 million from CIF- Angola

Luanda, ANGOLA, April 16 - Attorney General's Office (PGR) said that it has recovered USD 286.4 million that was in possession of CIF-Angola company, as managing entity of construction project for the New Luanda Airport.,

The recovery of the said amount is part of a process led by PGR’s National Department  for Prevention and Fight Against Corruption, tasked with monitoring the New Luanda International Airport (NAIL) works.

In its press release, PGR states that the amount is already deposited in an account of the Angolan state.

Investigation process is underway to establish liability, according to a note sent to Angop on Monday.

Angolan head of State, João Lourenço, visited NAIL in October 2017 to assess the execution of the construction works.

The New Luanda International Airport is located in Bom Jesus, Icolo e Bengo municipality, Luanda province.

At that time it was announced that the infrastructure should start operating in 2019, a two-year delay compared to the previous forecast, over alleged financial constraints.

NAIL's works are estimated at more than USD 5 billion dollars.
