Luanda, ANGOLA, April 9 - The Mozambican writer Mia Couto said on Monday that Africa has lately recorded positive political changes and has left little room for authoritarian regimes.,

 

The writer, who was speaking to the Angolan daily newspaper “Jornal de Angola”, added that the space for authoritarian regimes has been remarkably reduced even for those exercising repression in the name of their alleged historical legitimacy.

 

According to the writer, today the new generations of the African countries are connected to the world. “They know how the other states operate and how freedom can be conquered”, he stressed.

 

Mia Couto underlined that he cannot be quiet before injustices, adding that hes is against personal attack, imposition of the reason through authority and culture of fear.

 

The Mozambican writer is author of several poems published at Jornal da Beira. He released his first book of poetry entitled "Raiz de Orvalho" in 1983.

 

Mia Couto was awarded with the Prize of the Mozambican Journalists Organization in 1989 thanks to his book entitled “Cronicando”.

 

He also received the Neustadt International Prize for Literature.
