Belmont Village Albany Awarded Prestigious LEED Green Building Certification

HOUSTON, March 12, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Belmont Village Senior Living in Albany has been awarded LEED Gold Certification. The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the foremost program for buildings, homes and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.

Belmont Village Senior Living Albany Earns LEED certification
Designed with sustainability in mind, Belmont Village Albany is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold certified building. The community’s thoughtful and environmentally-friendly design has received national recognition including the 2016 Gold Nugget Award of Merit for “Best Senior Housing Community” and the 2017 Argentum Senior Living by Design Award.

"This achievement represents our commitment not only to the residents we serve, but to the world around us," said Patricia Will, Founder and CEO, Belmont Village Senior Living. "We began our green efforts with small changes; now, creating and maintaining environmentally-friendly practices has become part of our day-to-day operations."

Belmont Village Albany achieved LEED certification for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions aimed at achieving high performance in: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. Opened in 2017, the 175-unit building implemented several environmentally friendly components including a bicycle path, energy star fixtures, LED & energy star rated bulbs, low-emitting materials, recycled materials, high efficiency plumbing fixtures, HVAC and solar panels. The LEED certification represents the first of the company’s 29 communities to meet the USGBC’s stringent environmental guidelines. Belmont Village Lincoln Park, scheduled to open in summer 2019, is also seeking LEED certification.  The company also has seven communities that are Energy Star certified for 2018, meaning they are deemed to save energy, save money, and help protect the environment by generating fewer greenhouse gas emissions than typical buildings.

“The work of innovative building projects such as Belmont Village Albany is a fundamental driving force in transforming the way buildings are built, designed and operated,” said Mahesh Ramanujam, president and CEO, USGBC. “Buildings that achieve LEED certification are lowering carbon emissions, creating a healthier environment and reducing operating cost. By prioritizing sustainability, Belmont Village Albany is leading the way in their industry and helping USGBC continue toward our vision of a sustainable built environment within a generation.”
