President João Lourenço's reforms please USA - US diplomat
Luanda, ANGOLA, March 12 - The United States of America reaffirmed on Tuesday that was positively surprised by the reforms and the fight against corruption initiated by the President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço.,
According to US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Tibor Nagy, in a teleconference from Kigali, capital of Rwanda, "the United States and the world in general were surprised by the actions of President João Lourenço in the fight against corruption, although there is still much to do."
The teleconference followed by the United States Embassy in Luanda was convened to announce the visit of Assistant Secretary of State John Sullivan to Angola as from 17 to 18 March, coming from South Africa to assess cooperation contacts with human rights organizations.
The diplomat said that the Deputy Secretary of State will talk with President João Lourenço about issues related to security, the "strategic dialogue agreement" and environmental issues, aimed at strengthening the relationship with Angola, which in general "is very positive."
Tibor Nagy welcomed the partnership with Angola and reaffirmed its interest in helping to improve investor confidence, as well as increasing levels of trade and investment in Angolan soil.
He considered premature and "incorrect" any approach on the corresponding banks, regarding the ease in acquiring the US currency, the dollar, because there is still no decision on the matter.
Regarding trade with Angola, the US considers that exports of aluminum and steel threaten US national security without giving details.
