Luanda, ANGOLA, February 26 - The political situation of Abel Chivukuvuku, leader and independent member of the CASA-CE Coalition, is one of the negotiating factors for such members (independents) to join Bloco Democrático (BD), one of the parties that make up the coalition.,

Bloco Democratico (Democratic Bloc) is one of the party members of CASA-CE , however it seems BD now intends to quit the coalition and run on its own in the 2022 general elections.

 

In the meantime, some of the independent members of the coalition, who are seeking to join the BD party, have sent a letter to the board of this political organisation to, among other aspects, learn about which position Abel Chivukuvuku would occupy in the BD party.

 

Enquired by ANGOP on the veracity of the said document, whose content is available in the social media, MP Lindo Bernardo Tito - also an independent member of the coalition - did not confirm or deny the allegations.

   

The letter is not clear whether the independents want to impose Abel Chivukuvuku as president of the Bloco Democratico party, but it explicitly states that the position for secretary-general of the BD party should be taken up by an independent.    

 

Bloco Democrático is currently led by the MP Justino Pinto de Andrade, a historical political figure and dissident of the ruling MPLA party.

 

The CASA-CE coalition was idealized and formed in 2012 by the former member of the opposition UNITA, Abel Chivukuvuku. It is made up of six parties and a group of independent politicians, among them the founder of the coalition himself.

 

Last year, the Constitutional Court deliberated that the independent members of the coalition could no longer be part of it, since the grouping (CASA-CE ) is supposed to be a coalition of political parties and not a set of individual politicians.

 

Following the decision of the Constitutional Court it was expected that the independent members of the coalition would give steps towards forming a political party, but apparently some of the members prefer to affiliate with an already existing legalised political group.
