Addis Ababa, ANGOLA, February 11 - The 32nd Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) being held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, is closing this Monday, with discussion of several issues, mainly the digital transformation in Africa. ,

Today's session, the second and final day of the event, reserves a high-level meeting on the AU's recognition of the 400th anniversary of the transatlantic slave trade.

 

A digital transformation in Africa and high-level meeting of the board of directors of the Africa Rwanda / DIE Smart Alliance is also scheduled under the initiative of the Rwandan President Paul Kagame.

 

On Sunday, the first day of the summit, was marked by the opening speeches of the outgoing President of the Union, the Rwandan president Paul Kagame and the Egyptian, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, who stressed the need for continued reforms.

 

The solemn opening ceremony was attended by three special guests, including Microsoft founder, Bill Gates, FIFA President, Gianni Infantino and World Health Organization Director-General, Tedros Adhanom.

 

The Sunday's meeting was also marked by the analysis of key issues, such as the implementation of the decision to reform the organization, elections held in 2018 on the continent, regional integration, the situation of peace and security, humanitarian situation and analysis of the budget for 2019.

 

The chairman of the African Union commission, Moussa Faki, presented the report on the situation of peace and security in Africa and the actions undertaken by the organization in this matter in 2018.

 

The crisis situation on the continent, particularly in countries such as DR Congo, RCA, Libya, Sudan, South Sudan, Burundi, Somalia, and updated information on the implementation of the master roadmap to silence arms by 2020, as well as the electoral processes carried out in 2018 in DR Congo, Sierra Leone, Cameroon and Sao Tome and Principe, were also part of the peace and security report.

 

The Summit is also discussing the combat against terrorism and violent extremism in Africa.
