Angolan government raises primary education teachers' salary

Luanda, ANGOLA, January 25 - The salaries of more than 48,000 primary education teachers earning 49,000 kwanza with profile to join the career of higher education technician will be raised to 238.321 kwanza, in line with newly approved payment chart for public servants. ,

The measure aims at responding to complaints on the betterment of the career of the teachers, who improved their academic background, said on Thursday the secretary of State for Public Administration, Labour and Social Security, António Francisco Afonso.

 

The legal tool was approved on Thursday by the National assembly with 172 votes in favour, none against and one abstention.

 

According to António Francisco Afonso, with the approval of this new salary chart and salary raise, public servants and administrative agents will regain purchase power, resulting from the inflation index verified in the last few years.

 

The official also underscored that the adjustment made in the salary chart will introduce correction to the existing payment asymmetries between the careers belonging to the special and general regime as well as restore equity on the salary of the professionals with the same academic and technical professional profile.    

 

In the meantime, the state Secretary underlined that the payment raise will embody 91.3 percent of the public staff, with the medium raise at 84,632 kwanzas, while the minimum increase, which integrates non- technical personnel, is of 57.14 percent set at 33,598 kwanza.

    

The MPs have also requested for the introduction of isolation subside for those working on remote zones of the country.

 

However, the government official added that a solution is being sought to sort out the issue concerning the implementation of the unemployment subsidy.
