Angola de-dramatises idea of possible restrictions in entrance of migrants in Brazil

Luanda, ANGOLA, January 3 - Angola’s Foreign Affairs minister, Manuel Augusto, said on Wednesday in Brasilia, Brazil, that the country does not fear a possible restriction from the Brazilian government to the entrance of Angolan migrants in this South American country.,

The Angolan diplomat, who was the first one to be received by the new Brazilian Foreign Affairs minister, Ernesto Araújo, underscored that three out of four Angolans seeking the refugee status in Brazil are in fact from other African countries as well as victims of human trafficking.

According to the Angolan Foreign minister both countries’ migratory authorities are already working jointly towards the identification and prevention of human trafficking.

In the meantime, Manuel Augusto explained that the ongoing “Operação Transparência” (Operation Transparency) conducted in Angola, enabled the voluntary return of at least 400,000 illegal immigrants, taking into that the country is the fourth world’s biggest diamond producer.

“We have an illegal immigration in Angola of two million people” said the Angolan diplomat.

However, added the diplomat, there is no need for Angolan citizens to seek political asylum in Brazil, since the war in the country ended 16 years ago, stressing the fact that country does not have political prisoners.

The Foreign Affairs minister represented the Angolan president in the inauguration of the Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro.

The two countries have several cooperation agreements and assist each other at the level of international institutions, a relationship which feeds a bilateral trade of about USD 853.3 million, thus producing a gain of USD 420 million for Brazil.
