Move Marks a New Chapter for the Center in Development and Growth

DENVER, COLO., UNITED STATES, December 28, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Shellie Pfohl, CEO of the U.S. Center for SafeSport (the Center), a national non-profit focused on ending all forms of abuse in sport, informed the Board of Directors on December 7 of her intention to step down from her role as President and CEO at the end of 2018. As a part of her commitment to the Center, Pfohl remained through the end of the year to ensure a seamless and effective transition to Interim CEO Regis Becker, a member of the SafeSport Board of Directors.

“I deeply believe that our nation’s sport culture must change if we are to see athlete well-being at its centerpiece -- that’s what the U.S. Center for SafeSport is all about,” said Pfohl. “It was a tremendous honor to launch and grow an organization that is unlike any other. I am grateful to those who support the Center and aided my efforts along the way, including an amazing staff, and especially the brave athletes whose stories will always inspire me.”

Pfohl joined the Center in November 2016 to guide its official launch in March of 2017. During her two years with the nonprofit, Pfohl played a role in getting the organization to where it is today and presided over its tremendous growth, including assembling a team of highly-qualified professionals. Since opening its doors less than two years ago, the Center obtained Congressional Authorization, received more than 1,800 reports, issued over 400 disciplinary actions and made nearly 300 individuals permanently ineligible, a testament to the need for the Center and its important work.

Becker began his career in law enforcement where he served as a detective and FBI special agent. He is best known for his role in launching Penn State University’s Ethics and Compliance program after Sandusky, where he oversaw athletics integrity, university ethics, compliance issues, youth programs and the university’s ethics and compliance hotline. Previously, Becker served in executive compliance and security positions with Fortune 500 companies.
