Christine Lagarde meets Government economic team

Luanda, ANGOLA, December 21 - The International Monetary Fund (IMF) director general, Christine Lagarde, met on Friday with the Angolan government's economic team to discuss, among other things, the operationalization of the international financial assistance to Angola. ,

 

Christine Lagarde who is in Angola to confirm the USD 3.7 billion loan to the country, told journalists that the purpose is to stabilize and diversify the Angolan economy and improve market confidence.

The Director General reaffirmed that about 1 million dollars have been made available, but that other tranches will depend on periodic evaluations.

Lagarde said the repayment will be in 10 years, after a grace period of four years and that interest rates set by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), will help to give credibility to the ongoing reforms in the country.

The Minister of State for Economic and Social Development, Manuel Nunes, said that the IMF does not impose programs on Angola with the financing, but rather to implement reforms aimed at macroeconomic stability.

Manuel Nunes believes that it will also contribute to the implementation of the national development program 2018-2022.
