Interior minister discourages use of firearms
Luanda, ANGOLA, December 18 - Angolan Interior Minister Angelo da Veiga Tavares on Tuesday directed the police staff to use means such as sticks, tear gas and spray to disperse concentrations of protesters, avoiding the use of firearms.,
This comes in reaction to the emerging of some cases of abuses in exercise of their (police officers) activity, which allegedly result to various deaths.
Addressing an opening of the Consultative Council of the sector, Ângelo da Veiga Tavares called for greater action by the police at the banking facilities.
"They are preferential points of criminals and robbers," he said.
The official urged the members to step up actions in the festive events for New Years’ Eve due to the high rate of road traffic accidents, drowning, fires, among others.
The minister announced that some proposals of legislation of the National Police will be under discussion.
