Angolans welcome president visit to Portugal

Lisbon, ANGOLA, November 16 - Angolan citizens residing in Portugal considered crucial the visit of the Angolan head of State João Lourenço to Portugal hoping that such trip will bring solutions to the pressing issues of the community. ,

 

João Lourenço is visiting Portugal on November 22 - 24 at the invitation of the European country's counterpart, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

 

This is the president João Lourenço's first visit to the European country since he took office in September 2017.

 

The community believes that the visit will enable the president to get informed on the plights faced by the Angolans, especially in the migratory area.

 

The lawyer Elizeu Gonçalves said he hopes that the trip help create mechanisms for ease integration of Angolans into Portugal, which allows greater freedom of movement between the two countries’ citizens.

 

Gonçalves defended Portugal/Angola relations based on equality.

 

In turn, the president of the Platform for the Development of African Women, Luzia Moniz, said she hope the visit will allow Portuguese support for students with good academic performance, at no cost.

 

According to her, the visit should help prepare the repatriation process of Angolan capital illegally transferred to Portugal.

 

She also asked the Executive's commitment to creating technical and constitutional conditions for the vote abroad.

 

Márcia Costa, president of African Students Association of Lusophone University of Humanities and Technologies of Lisbon, defended increase in support for the student community abroad.

 

Accompanied by the First Lady, Ana Dias Lourenço, the Statesman will lead a ministerial delegation including members of his Office.

 

In Portugal, the visit will cover the cities of  Lisbon and  Oporto.

 

The visiting agenda for Lisbon city includes meeting with his Portuguese counterpart, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. He will also address a plenary session of  Assembly of Republic.

 

In Oporto city, João Lourenço is expected to take part in a Portugal-Angola economic seminar to gather businessmen from both countries.
