World Amputee Football Cup winners offer ball to Head of State
Luanda, ANGOLA, November 13 - The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, last Monday was offered a ball and a painting signed by the Amputee National Football Team, who recently conquered the world championship of this adapted sport, which took place in Mexico.,
In the Presidential Palace, in Luanda, the amputee national squad players presented the Cup to the Head of State.
In the World Cup final, Angola beat Turkey 5-4 on penalties, after a 0-0 result in the regular period.
To get to this point, the national squad beat Ukraine (4-0), Spain (1-0), Italy (2-0), Brazil (2-1) and Poland (6-5) and lost 1-1 to Haiti.
Menwhile, right after the national team’s conquest in Mexico, the Angolan Head of State wrote a congratulation message in which he states that Angola's win of the World Amputee Football Cup is a transcendent feat and unprecedented in Angolan sport.
In a note to the Angolan Paralympics Committee (CPA), the Head of State stated that the triumph fills the Angolan people with joy.
"I would therefore like to convey my heartfelt congratulations to the valiant members of the national soccer team who stoically beat Mexico, a victorious course that results and statistics confirm unequivocally: six wins in seven games!", wrote President João Lourenço.
This is the second consecutive World Cup final of the National Amputee Football Team. In their first final in 2014, also hosted by Mexico, the Angolan squad lost 1-3 to Russia.
Last Monday, the squad were also received in audience by the minister of National Defence, Salviano de Jesus Sequeira.
The Amputee National Football Team are comprised mostly by young people who have lost their limbs at the service of the motherland as soldiers.
