Head of State to open legislative year on Monday

Luanda, ANGOLA, October 15 - The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, is to deliver a State of the Nation message this Monday at the National Assembly, a gathering which also marks the opening of the 2018/2019 Legislative Year. ,

The Constitution of the Republic of Angola, approved in February 2010, mandates that the Head of State open every legislative year with a state of the nation address.  

 

Is such address, the Head of Sate is required to present a summary of the policies in the pipeline which will be implemented to resolve the main problems facing the nation, to improve the wellbeing of the citizens and boost the country’s development.

 

This Monday’s parliamentary session is also counting on the presence of government officials, representatives of the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Angola and personalities of the civil society.

 

ANGOP has learnt that the country’s Chief Magistrate is going to focus on issues like the fight against corruption, measures for economic growth, the 2019 State Budget, the Penal Code Bill and the draft legislation for the holding of the first local (municipal) elections, which are scheduled to happen in the year 2020.    

  

For the present legislature, the 220-seat National Assembly is made up by the  MPLA (governing party with 150 seats), UNITA (51 seats), CASA-CE (16), PRS (2) and FNLA (1).
