New York, ANGOLA, September 27 - The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, last Wednesday in New York defended the decentralisation of the world financial system, aiming at the promotion of sustainable development. ,

The Head of State was delivering a speech, for the first time, at the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly.

 

João Lourenço appealed to the UN to focus not only on the promotion of the economic and commercial integration system, but also on the strengthening of the regional financial institutions, so as to enable a more sustainable economic development.   

 

He defended also the broadening of the UN Security Council, in a way that it can represent better the different geopolitical regions.

 

On the other hand, he stressed the need for focus on the fight against international terrorism, organised transnational crime, illegal immigration, xenophobia, trafficking of drugs and human beings.

 

Considering the alarming proportions of the referred ills, João Lourenço recommended high level concert among the UN member states to tackle these issues.    

 

To the Angolan statesman, the United Nations Organization (UNO) must continue to promote the defence of human rights and the resolution of global problems, such as those related to security, environment, reduction of inequalities between the rich and the poor, as well as other issues with implication on development and world peace.

  

He reaffirmed the commitment of Angola to re-launching its economy and seeking solutions for the total pacification, democratization and development of Southern and Central Africa.

  

João Lourenço manifested Angola’s availability to continue supporting the promotion of the co-operation among the nations, consolidation of peace, as well as world commerce, bilateral and multilateral investments.

 

The 73rd session of the UN General Assembly began on 18 September and it will last nine days.
