Embezzlement is not enshrined in amnesty-jurist
Luanda, ANGOLA, September 27 - The crime of embezzlement is not included in the amnesty approved in 2016, said on Tuesday the Angolan jurist, Esteves Hilário.,
Speaking in interview to Angop, in Luanda, the jurist stated that there could only be amnestied the facts occurred until November 11 of 2015, punishable with sentences until 12 years of imprisonment.
According to him, the law itself leaves out the crime of embezzlement because its penalty is more than 12 years in prison.
However, added the jurist, in those cases which the justice during the investigation concludes that some facts took place before November of 2015, the General Attorney Office (PGR) must file the process.
Lawyer Esteves Hilario was commenting the recent arrests in the country's capital, Luanda, involving high-profile national figures, including José Filomeno dos Santos, son of the former President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos.
