Penitenciary service striving to end prison overcrowding

Luanda, ANGOLA, September 28 - The solution to the problems caused by prison overcrowding in the country and the qualitative improvement of the inmates? diet are among the priorities of the Prison Service, according to its director general, Jorge Mendonça.,

Speaking on the occasion of the 25th Consultative Council of the Penitentiary Service, which is being held since Thursday the official also, pointed out as priorities the medical and the internal capacity to produce goods and services.

Jorge Mendonça also spoke of the need for humane and dignified treatment of prisoners, as well as preparing them to live in dignity once in freedom.

The training and education programs for prison staff so as to improve  service and the quality of life of prisoners are also included in the priorities.

The opening session of the council was presided over by the Secretary of State for the Interior, Bamoquina Zau.

The two days event is taking place under the motto "For the humanization, rehabilitation and reintegration of the prisoner, value the penitentiary employees"
