Luanda, ANGOLA, September 17 - A monument flag in the Military History Museum, in Luanda's urban district of Ingombota, was hoisted Monday (September 17) in honour of one more birthday of the Founder of the Nation and National Hero, António Agostinho Neto, who would turn 96 years old today. ,

 

The ceremony was meant to pay tribute to the first President of the Republic who died on 10 September 1979, victim of illness in Moscow, ex- Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), now Russia.

 

The minister of National Defense, Salviano de Jesus Sequeira, who chaired the ceremony told the press that the Angolan people should continue to pay homage to all those who lost their lives in defence of the motherland, and  those who fought for the liberation of the country.

 

Salviano Sequeira said that the homage to the date of António Agostinho Neto's birth, which coincided with his burial, should always represent an obligation for all national heroes.

 

The 40kg-flag has 18 meters long and 12 meters wide.

 

The Monument Flag was hoisted for the first time in the National Museum of Military History (ex-fortress of S. Miguel), in a ceremony presided over by the then President José Eduardo dos Santos on April 4, 2013.

 

It is also flown on 4 January (Martyrs Day of the Colonial Repression of Kassanje Lower), February 4 (Beginning of the Armed Struggle for National Liberation), March 8 (International Women's Day), April 4 (Peace and National Reconciliation), 1 May (International Workers' Day) and 25 May (Africa Day).
