Huambo, ANGOLA, September 12 - After 43 years, the central Huambo province being ruled by men, will be governed for the first time by a woman appointed Wednesday by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.,

This is Joana Lina Ramos Baptista, who until last week held the position of 1st vice-Speaker of the National Assembly and replaces  João Baptista Kussumua, who ruled the province since September 2016.

The cycle of men to govern this province began with the current MP to the National Assembly Agostinho Ndjaka, from the MPLA bench, between 1976 and 1977, at the time designated as Provincial commissioner non-governor.

They were followed by Pedro Maria Tonha Pedale (1978-1979), Santana André Pitra Petrof (1979-1982), João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade (1982-1984), Marques Monocapui Wassovava (1984), Marcolino José Carlos Moco (1984-1986).

The province of Huambo was also ruled by Osvaldo de Jesus Serra Van-Dúnen (1986-1991), Graciano Mande (1991-1992), Baltazar Manuel (1995-1997), António Paulo Cassoma (1997-2008), Albino Malungo (2009 -2010), Fernando Faustino Muteka (2010-2014), Kundi Paihama (2014-2016) and João Baptista Kussumua, since September 2016.

The new governor, born in Kamabatela, in the province of Cuanza Norte, served from 1991 to 1997 as Secretary of State and Promotion and Development of Women, and was Minister of Family and Women Promotion from 1997 to 1998.

She is also involved in sports and social associations, having been a leader of the Angolan Football Federation, the Olympic and Paralympics Committee, the Rural Women's Committee and has already presided over the table of the assembly of the Association of Economists.

In philanthropy, she helped to found the Lwini Social Fund, where she serves on its board of directors.
