Angolan vice-president to attend Kofi Annan funeral
Luanda, ANGOLA, September 12 - Angolan vice- president, Bornito de Sousa, left Luanda early this Wednesday for Accra, Ghana, to attend the funeral of the former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan died on August 18 in Switzerland, in representation of the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço.,
Kofi Annan, whose funeral takes place on Thursday, was UN Secretary General during 1997 until 2007 he was also awarded the Noble Peace Prize in 2001.
By the time of his death, the Angolan president considered through a communiqué, “fair to underscore the diplomatic ability and relevant role played by the then UN Secretary General in the quest for world peace”.
The note added that Kofi Annan leaves an important legacy in the defense of the human rights, remarked in his supportive actions towards the creation of the Global Fund to fight Tuberculosis and Malaria as well as the commitment to the UN reform and renovation with view to turn it more representative for the peoples of the different continents.
