Courts of Appeal begin in March 2019

Luanda, ANGOLA, September 3 - The first Courts of Appeal, to be implemented within the framework of the reform of justice and law in the country, start operating in March 2019, in the provinces of Luanda and Benguela, announced Monday the Supreme Court Chief Justice, Rui Ferreira.,

"The assessment is that they are well on their way," he told reporters on the sidelines of the opening of the year of judicial training at the National Institute of Judicial Studies (INEJ), ensuring that, as infrastructure conditions are prepared, is training magistrates who will work in such courts.

The Chief Judge reiterated that the creation of the Courts of Appeal will relieve pressure and procedural pending in the Supreme Court and other superiors, as well as decentralize appeals, bring them closer to the citizens, and make justice faster.

He made it clear that the moment is reserved for the work of evaluating the situation, surveying the needs and preparing the Courts of Appeal and Courts.

He said there is a great deal of engagement in the process involving the Ministry of Justice, the Supreme Court, the Higher Council of the Judiciary and the Public Prosecution Service.

On the other hand, the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Francisco Queiroz, highlighted the role of district courts in obeying a concept of proximity to citizens.

Regarding the Courts of Appeal, he said that they will bring advantages in reducing the burden that the Supreme Court has at the moment, avoiding that the "base" go directly to the Supreme, causing a "process congestion."
