President Ramaphosa has expressed his satisfaction with the progress being made in preparation for the Jobs Summit to be held on the 4th and 5th October 2018.

This follows a briefing to the President by the Presidential Committee on the Jobs Summit held in Tuynhys, Cape Town, today, 29 August 2018.

President Ramaphosa announced the intention to convene a Job Summit to “align the efforts of every sector and every stakeholder behind the imperative of job creation” during the delivery of the State of the Nation Address in February this year. The Summit further seeks to identify solutions to job retention and deal with policy and regulatory uncertainty to unlock inclusive growth and employment.

The Presidential Committee on the Job Summit brings together all constituencies (government, labour, business and community) represented in the National Economic Development and Labour Council (NEDLAC) and seeks to provide direction and guidance to the process towards the Job Summit. It has established five working committees covering economic sector-specific interventions, small, medium and micro enterprises (SMME) support, education and skills, public and social programmes, labour market and anti-corruption interventions as well as inclusive growth, redistribution and transformation.

“Creating decent work and building an inclusive economy is a societal responsibility. I am very encouraged by the unity of purpose and collaboration among social partners to confront the greatest challenge facing our country,” says President Ramaphosa.

Further updates on preparations for the Summit and on engagement by and agreements of the Presidential Committee will be communicated by NEDLAC.
