Angolan FM assesses positively presidential visit to Germany

João Lourenço was in Berlin on Wednesday and Thursday, where he had meetings with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
The Angolan President also took part in an Economic Forum between businessmen from both countries and met with Angolan communities living in Germany and the Czech Republic.
"The visit met its objectives and we left Germany satisfied," Angolan Foreign Minister Manuel Augusto told reporters.
In his assessment, the minister highlighted the agreements reached, particularly in the areas of road, rail and airport infrastructures, as well as in the areas of energy, telecommunications, maritime surveillance and the exploitation of iron.
"The perspective is great," stressed Manuel Augusto, before speaking of the expansion of the Angolan-German partnership in the general scope of the diversification of the Angolan economy.
During the visit of the President of the Republic João Lourenço to Germany, the foreign minister of this European country, Heiko Maas, received his Angolan counterpart Manuel Augusto.
The meeting took place after the Angolan Head of State held talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
In Germany, the Angolan President also visited the Siemens Mechatronics School and attended a dinner with representatives of the 20 largest German companies as part of their common efforts to deepen economic relations.
At the meeting of political consultations at the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two ministers discussed ways to promote and deepen bilateral cooperation and the development of partnerships with reciprocal advantages.
In this regard, they welcomed the signing of the Joint Declaration between the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure of Germany and the Ministry of Transport of Angola and the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Geological Institute of Angola (IGEA) and the Federal Institute Geosciences and Natural Resources of Germany (BGR).
The ministers expressed their support on the strengthening regional integration and the African initiatives for peace, stability and development in Africa and were encouraged by the developments in the political situation in countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
In this context, the German side praised Angola's role in maintaining peace and security in the Great Lakes Region.
The two Ministers also discussed the "Compact with Africa" and the "Marshall Plan for Africa" programs presented by the Federal Republic of Germany during its rotating G20 presidency with the aim of creating a new framework of cooperation with Africa.
They also addressed the European Union's challenges stemming from Brexit, and the Angolan side encouraged Germany's efforts in this process.
The German side thanked Angola for its support in its recent election to a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2019-2020.
The Angolan Foreign Minister extended to his German counterpart an invitation to make an official visit to the Republic of Angola, which was accepted and the dates will be agreed in due time through the diplomatic channels.
