A DIY masterpiece of spare pallets, cardboard, and leather

FORT WORTH, Texas, Aug. 09, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- A few miles north of the trendy West 7th Shopping District and the historic Fort Worth Stockyards, a hidden gem lies waiting to be discovered. Nestled deep in a nondescript warehouse park off the northern arc of the 820 Loop, you’ll find the brand new flagship showroom of the Saddleback Leather Company. Knocked together with spare pallets and cardboard, the showroom is a perfect expression of Saddleback CEO and founder Dave Munson’s DIY approach to business.

“We looked around Fort Worth for the perfect spot to open a showroom, and nothing felt quite right. So finally I thought, Hey, let’s just do it ourselves right here in the warehouse. Maybe later on we’ll set up shop in a proper retail district, but right now we’re treating this on-site showroom as a laboratory to work out the kinks and really figure out what we want out of a physical retail space.”

Carved out of a corner of the Saddleback warehouse, the space has a distinctly prohibition speakeasy ‘what’s-the-password’ feel. The stacked shipping pallet walls are unpretentious, utilitarian, and achieve the stated mission: to provide a space to come touch and smell the leather designs, and maybe even have a coffee with Dave. Custom display tables made from ancient mexican railroad ties complete the rustic vibe.

The 1500 square foot showroom is Saddleback’s first foray into physical retail since their origin as an online-only retailer since 2003. Every design from Saddleback, Mountainback, and their sister company Love 41 is on display. During business hours, customer service reps will be available to help shoppers place orders for on-site pickup. Hours of operation will be irregular, open by appointment, happenstance or luck, until further notice.
