Attorney General's Office confirms notification delivered to Isabel dos Santos
Luanda, ANGOLA, August 1 - Attorney General's Office reaffirmed Wednesday in Luanda to have notified the businesswoman Isabel dos Santos to provide clarification on her management, while on tenure as top manager of the State-run oil firm ?Sonangol?.
,
Isabel dos Santos would also be heard in a criminal case filed by the current Sonangol CEO, Carlos Saturnino, allegedly for defamation, of which the businesswoman is a complainant.
The reaction followed a press release from the businesswoman, distributed on Tuesday, in which she denied to have received any notification from the Angolan Attorney General's Office.
"It was with surprise that Eng. Isabel dos Santos learnt through the Media that she had been notified to respond to the acts of her management at Sonangol where she was the company's CEO," reads a statement distributed by Portuguese Agency of Communication LPM.
The notification, according to Attorney General Office's source, was delivered on 17 July at
her own home and received by the employer's maid who signed it, although Isabel dos Santos herself was in.
On February 28, Sonangol's current chairman, Carlos Saturnino, accused the company of having spent $135 million in consulting and authorised a transfer of another $ 38 million, one day after being fired.
The manager also reported, among other alleged irregularities, the existence of a so-called "caixa dois", for processing of wages outside the normal payment circuit.
Isabel dos Santos, who took office in June 2016, was dismissed as Sonangol CEO on November 15, 2017.
