Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta Announces Second Quarter 2018 Operating Highlights

ATLANTA, July 26, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta (the Bank) today released preliminary unaudited financial highlights for the quarter ended June 30, 2018. All numbers reported below for the second quarter of 2018 are approximate until the Bank announces unaudited financial results in its Form 10-Q filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which is expected to be filed on or about August 9, 2018.

The Bank reported net income of $107 million for the second quarter of 2018, an increase of $21 million from net income of $86 million for the second quarter of 2017. The increase in net income for the second quarter of 2018 was primarily attributable to an increase in interest rates.

As of June 30, 2018, the Bank had total assets of $154.2 billion, an increase of $7.6 billion, or 5.19 percent, from December 31, 2017. The Bank's advances were $104.5 billion as of June 30, 2018, an increase of $2.1 billion, or 2.05 percent, from December 31, 2017. The Bank's retained earnings balance was $2.1 billion as of June 30, 2018, an increase of $76 million, or 3.83 percent, from December 31, 2017. Capital stock was $5.3 billion as of June 30, 2018, an increase of $146 million, or 2.82 percent, from December 31, 2017.

The Bank's second quarter 2018 performance resulted in an annualized return on average equity (ROE) of 5.73 percent as compared to 4.99 percent for the second quarter of 2017. The ROE spread to average three-month LIBOR decreased to 339 basis points for the second quarter of 2018, as compared to 378 basis points for the second quarter of 2017. As of June 30, 2018, the Bank was in compliance with its regulatory capital requirements.
