CPLP projection animates Portuguese state

Sal Island, ANGOLA, July 19 - The President and the Prime Minister of Portugal, respectively, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and António Costa, expressed Monday in Sal (Cabo Verde) their optimism concerning the affirmation and projection of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP).,

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and António Costa are in Cabo Verde to participate in the XII Summit of Heads of State and the Government of the CPLP.

The Portuguese president considered evident the political, economic, financial, social and cultural projection of the organization in the international arena praising also its political and diplomatic concertation in the international domain.

Rebelo de Sousa said that his country presents itself as "one of the great" defenders of mobility and free circulation ".

Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa said that the organization's prestige has been demonstrated by the growing intention of countries and international organizations to join the CPLP.

The prime minister stressed that the summit shows a great commitment of the countries of the organization to the highest level, which had not happened for a long time.

Regarding the agenda proposed by the Cabo Verdean presidency, António Costa said that it demonstrates how member states are focused on citizens and on major global challenges, such as the oceans.

The summit's agenda included discussions on the consolidation of the CPLP, the mobility of citizens of the community and the election of a new executive secretary.

The Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) was established on 17 July 1996 with the aim of deepening mutual friendship and cooperation among its members.
