Election of Angola to ECOSOC a sign of international confidence - Archbishop

Saurimo, ANGOLA, July 1 - The Archbishop of Saurimo, José Imbamba, considered on Friday in Saurimo, eastern Lunda Sul province, the recent election of Angola to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) as a sign of confidence by the international community.,

In an interview to Angop, the Catholic cleric said that the admission of Angola to this UN body is a responsibility that the country assumes in order to improve its governmental action, especially in terms of human rights.

Angola was elected to ECOSOC with 183 votes in favor, out of a total of 187 members who attended the UN General Assembly recently held at its headquarters in New York.

The last time the country was represented in this forum was in the 2006-2008 period.

The Economic and Social Council of the United Nations is the central forum for internal discussions involving international economic and social issues, formulating recommendations for forum and UN members.

 It is also responsible for implementation the overall development goals.
