Nouakchott, ANGOLA, June 28 - The African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights complains against some convicted African countries which failed to comply with decisions brought against them by individuals or organizations, Angop learned Wednesday from an African Union (AU) source in Nouakchott, Mauritania.,

According to the source, the AU has convicted some African countries for violating the decision of the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights (ACHPR) or other international human rights instruments to which they are parties.

On the other hand, the  African Court on Human and Peoples' Rightshas expressed its intention to file a complaint against a decision of the AU Executive Council that prohibits it to disclose the names of countries that do not comply with its decisions.

The complaint is due to be presented at the 31st AU ordinary summit, which is being prepared since June 25 in Nouakchott, where the Executive Council begins this Thursday its 33rd ordinary session at the end of the 36th meeting of the ambassadors .

The African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights was established on 9 June 1998 in Burkina Faso by the then Organization of African Unity (OAU), the predecessor of the African Union.

It started  operating in 2006 and is based in Arusha, Tanzania, and consists of 11 judges elected by the Executive Council and appointed by the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.
