SADC - PF chairperson reiterates wish to transform it into a regional parliament

In order to achieve this goal, the Angolan diplomat requested the intervention of Angola’s president, João Lourenço, to persuade other SADC Heads of State and government during the summit to take place in August in Namibia.
Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos added that the Angolan president believes effectively that one the most efficient ways for building a strong and thriving SADC passes through the creation of an institution that represents all peoples and community of this region.

In her turn Angolan MP, Josefina Pitra Diakité, explained recently that the Forum to be transformed into a regional parliament will facilitate the application of SADC policies and programmes, especially its effective integration as well as the ratification of treaties.
The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Parliamentary Forum is an autonomous institution, established in 1997 and consists of 14 parliaments from the region, namely Angola, South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Malawi, Republic Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Botswana, Lesotho, Mauritius, Mozambique, eSwatini (former Swaziland), Zambia, Seychelles.
