SADC to discuss revision of electoral observation norms

The meeting, due to take place on Friday, is also expected to assess the political and security situation of the southern Africa region, the consolidation of democracy as well as analyse aspects relating to the SADC Electoral Observation Missions.
The event to be hosted by Angola’s capital, Luanda, will also discuss the proposal for the establishment of the Southern Africa Liberation Day, the reassessment of the Republic of Burundi’s eligibility to join SADC, the finalization of the Mechanism to pay homage to countries that founded the organization, as well as domestic violence cases, among others.
Issues related to defence and security of the member states, the sub-committee of Fight against Corruption, Penitentiary Services, Public Security and Police are also amongst those issues to be discussed in the meeting.
Angola took up the chair of the SADC Ministerial Committee of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation in the year 2017.
