Muxima Sanctuary to join country's tourist itinerary

Luanda, ANGOLA, June 15 - Culture Minister Carolina Cerqueira said Thursday in Quissama municipality, in Luanda, that the requalification of the village and the Sanctuary of Muxima, as well as the construction of the Basilica will make the site a reference for Angola.,

The minister, made the statement at the end of the presentation of the project of requalification of the village of Muxima which includes the construction of the Basilica and surroundings areas.

Located on the banks of the Kwanza River, in the Luanda municipality of Quissama, the site was occupied by the Portuguese in 1589, who ten years later built a fortress there and the church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, also known as "Mama Muxima".

For the requalification of the village, a commission was created by the President of the Republic that includes, among others, the Ministries of Culture (coordinator), Energy and Water, Hotel and Tourism, Interior, Spatial Planning and Housing and the government of the province of Luanda.

The minister emphasized that the project give the municipality a new visibility.
