In 1922, in Shreveport, Louisiana, the first Shriners Hospital was created. Now, there are twenty-two hospitals throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada. However, they help children in need all throughout the world.

The Guatemala volcano eruption was a prime example. The Shriners Hospital cared for the child victims.

The hospitals all operate as nonprofits. Therefore, they rely on donations to keep doing their charitable works. Thanks to the Shriners and the communities surrounding the hospitals, they are a thriving beacon of hope for children everywhere.

In addition to helping children, many of the Shriners hospitals serve as teaching hospitals. They work closely with acclaimed Universities to give students experience in pediatric care.
