Electoral Commission analyses govt's proposal on local elections
Luanda, ANGOLA, June 5 - The proposal of the government on the first local elections in the country was presented last Monday, in Luanda, to the National Electoral Commission (CNE), in the framework of a public consultation being conducted by the Ministry of Territory Administration and State Reform. ,
The ceremony was chaired by the head of the CNE, André da Silva Neto, and the minister of Territory Administration and State Reform, Adão de Almeida.
The public consultation process is intended for the collection of contributions to enrich the draft laws on local governments recently presented to the National Assembly (Parliament) by the government.
The first local elections in Angola are set to happen in the year 2020, as recommended by the Council of the Republic in its meeting of last March, chaired by President João Lourenço.
In the end of last Monday’s ceremony, the CNE spokesman, Lucas Quilundo, reiterated that the Territory Administration Ministry has started analysing the draft legislative package with the various sections of society.
He stressed that the contributions from society must be made in an organised manner.
