Justice Ministry slams justice officials' strike, posture

Luanda, ANGOLA, May 29 - The Ministry of Justice and Human Rights has slammed the attitude of the Trade Union of Angolan Justice Department Officials (SOJA) for introducing in the last minute new elements in their complaints list, in the ambit of the strike that the trade unionists summoned last week and which began last Monday.,

SOJA has decided to stage a five-day strike, in the ambit of which many justice sector services are not being provided, such as courts activities, issue of birth certificates, birth registration documents and identity cards, among others, due to lack of an agreement with the government.

The Justice Ministry has released a communiqué on which it states “SOJA has ignored all the effort made by the Executive, Consultative Council and the Negotiation Commission following several days of talks to reach an agreement.

The Ministry goes on to say that it adopted a constructive and flexible posture in regard to the complaints of SOJA (whose members include judges and bailiffs).

Some of the demands made by SOJA are the creation of better work conditions in the various sectors of the Justice Ministry, promotion of justice officials in line with the recommendations of the13th Consultative Council,  resumption of medical assistance and the approval of a new remuneration chart, among others.
