African countries celebrate African Union's 55th anniversary

The commemoration was turned into the greater political commitment of the African leaders, aimed at accelerating the end of the colonisation of the continent.
Africa Day was established by the United Nations in 1972, in recognition of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was founded on May 25, 1963, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and has been replaced by the African Union.
The Africa Day also represents a deep meaning of the collective memory of the peoples of the continent and the demonstration of the common goal of unity and solidarity of the Africans in the struggle for continental economic development.
African continent has 54 countries and approximately 30.27 million square kilometers of land. It is the second most populous continent in the world (after Asia), with approximately 900 million inhabitants (2005 data).
The main economic bloc is the Southern African Development Community (SADC), made up of more than 10 countries, including Angola.
