May 30 Webinar on Understanding the Power Grid and Organized Markets

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Indian Energy, in partnership with the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA), is hosting a free webinar titled “Understanding the Power Grid and Organized Markets” on Wednesday, May 30, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mountain Time.

Understanding the power grid and organized markets is essential for tribes interested in developing energy projects and selling energy into the wholesale electricity market. Webinar attendees will gain knowledge of transmission markets, management, and ownership structures; interconnection request processes and timelines; transmission planning and operations; and fundamentals of the power grid.

Due to the ongoing changes in organized energy markets, this webinar will update and build off of our September 2017 webinar Fundamentals of Organized Energy Markets for Tribes. Attendees will learn about ongoing changes with the Southwest Power Pool and California Independent System Operator that will create greater opportunities for tribes to sell and buy energy.

The webinar will begin with an introduction from Lizana Pierce of the Office of Indian Energy, followed by a presentation from Allan Austin, Automatic Generation Control (AGC) Technical Lead at WAPA.

There is no charge to attend, but registration is required. Register now for this webinar, and learn more about the 2018 Tribal Sovereignty and Self-Determination through Community Energy Development webinar series.
